No need to use the computer as a MIDI sequencer. I actually use an external sequencer for all of my MIDI messages. I mix 4 MIDI instruments together for one track, to save time. That's why I do it this way. Powered by Infopop www. Remember Me? The No. Today's Posts competitions support us FAQ advertise our advertisers newsletter. Boss DR-3 and DR drum machines, question I've had the DR-3 for some time and am rather burned out on the canned rhythm pattern songs in the unit. Just wondering if anyone out there has had both units with the DR costing much more, does it have further canned rhythm pattern songs over the DR-3??? I cannot for the life me manage to program these units to create workable drum song patterns, just can't do it.
Does the DR have more or perhaps better canned song patterns than the DR-3? My Studio. Agree editing patterns on drum machines in general isn't fun; I had a TR back in the day that I used to do the same thing with. If your DR-3 is hooked up, you could then send it MIDI from a sequencer, which is in effect what the patterns are on the drum machine.
I use a program called Drumcore that has tons of patterns, intros, fills, etc. Thanks, I may have to upgrade that end of my rig to get some better quality jam tracks. I even tried some CD backing tracks but not being able to alter keys and tempo was a real downer. Also no holes in the canned tracks, too busy, some of the harder ones were just impossible to improvise into.
The DR-3 was fun to jam to and one could change the key, tempo and alter the bass and output. I am just burned out on the same tracks. It has variations, fills and such but still gets old. I feed the drum machine into 2 small el-cheapo Fenders for stereo and to keep it out of my guitar rig. I do not have a recording setup at the moment with monitors, so no PC thing.
I had hoped to resolve the issue easily while keeping the focus on my playing and tone experiments. I just hate messing with drum patterns and such, just not my thing. I need something simple. I was hoping the DR might give me some more song patterns to jam with for now and maybe when I get my recording rig going I can opt for the various drum software goodies out there. Got it. Without a computer, can't help much as you'll have to decide if the various boxes have enough pattern variety for you.
Perhaps the Drums section will be a better place to post. I have the DR and love it! I also really like that it is a stand-alone unit and that I don't need use a laptop to run it.
The machine has a lot of features and is actually rather user-friendly to program well, compared to previous units from Boss. If you have any specific questions, I'll do my best to answer them. I have no luck trying to program these machines, no luck at all. I just like being able to have something to jam w I just turn on like the song patterns already in the DR Most are not usable for me except some of the fusion, Blues, 8th, 16th and Ballad ones which I am able to improvise. The Rock ones seem to be rather unusable for me.
Any better Jazz ones in the , It is quite a bit more money. The DR's are pretty cool because they have the variation, tempo, and key change options. Rather than just a monotonous loop pattern. I am always looking for some simple machine that does not have me programming patterns,.
Thanks man for the info. So hard to get a response on these boards. I realize it has patterns but how are they linked to song patterns is that something you have to program together?
