Dated I've baled about bales since I installed the new bill hook and the only miss-tie I've had was when the baler transitioned from an empty ball of twine to a new, full ball. Tom in TN. I replaced a billhook and its wiper arm on mine earlier this Spring. Either the manual or the instruction sheet that came with the wiper arm I can't remember which one it was said to bend the wiper arm using a large adjustable wrench.

That didn't seem possible to me, but I tried it and it worked. The arm is stout, but it's made of malleable iron. The billhook tension adjustment adjusts how tightly the "tongue" on the billhook clamps down on the twine while it is on the billhook.

This holds the twine in place while the wiper arm comes across and forms the knot and stips it off the billhook. This is necessary since the twine knife cuts the twine loose from the twine disc before the wiper arm completes the knot and strips it off the billhook. Twine tension is set with a bolt and compression spring right where the twine comes out of the twine boxes. On mine, it takes a fair bit of pull to pull the twine through the tension adjuster.

It is normal for the bale to expand when it comes out of the chute thus tightening the bale. If you can get your hands under the twine to pick up the bale from the ground, the bale tension is probably fine. If the twine is as tight as "piano strings" and you have a hard time getting your hand under the twine to pick the bale up, the bale tension is probably too tight. Keep working. You'll have that baler fine tuned pretty soon. Tom in TN PS. I became a Christian many years ago and the Lord cleaned up my vocabulary in a pretty short time.
